I so love Boat Shoes, not only for my sweetie... but I love wearing these kinds of comfy shoes, as well. And I was so happy when I saw these shoes last year (or 2 years ago?) being worn again by models on Fashion TV - because I knew they're back!
The good thing is that there is a local brand of Boat Shoes which has the same quality but not as expensive as the imported ones - they call it Flying Dutchman Shoes. Barely around 3 months old in the business, Flying Dutchman has been attracting many clients because their awesome shoes are trendy, classic, comfortable and reasonably-priced. And mind you, they are hand-made with 100% cow leather!
A little trivia from wikipedia:
Boat shoes (also known as deck shoes or topsiders)
are typically canvas or leather with non-marking rubber soles designed for use
on a boat. A siping pattern is cut into the soles to
provide grip on a wet deck; the leather construction, along with application of
oil, is designed to repel water. Modern boat shoes were invented in 1935
by Paul Sperry after noticing his dog's ability to run easily over ice without
slipping. Using a knife, he cut siping into his shoes' soles, inspiring a
shoe perfect for boating, and a company called Sperry Top-Sider. SperryTop-Siders are still a popular brand of boat
shoes today, among many others, namely Sebago. Boat shoes are traditionally worn without socks.

The versatility that Boat Shoes bring is one of the reasons why a lot of people (usually men) wear this with different styles from casual to formal. So, this Valentine's, get your man into it!
